13 Artist WordPress Themes That Are Mobile Responsive With Built-In Portfolios

Wordpress themes for artists

If you’re an artist looking for a mobile responsive WordPress theme with an awesome design and built-in portfolio to showcase your work, these 15 themes are perfect for the job.

They all have high ratings and come from reliable developers. This is important because you DON’T want your theme to get abandoned and crap out on you. This can happen on sites like ThemeForest which is why I recommend choosing artist themes with high ratings and sales.

You should really be investing in a premium theme since paid developers are more likely to take care of their theme (so it won’t get discontinued and crap out on you). That’s why these are all premium WordPress artist themes from solid developers. Leave a comment if you need help!

  1. Hi there,

Probably a silly question but here goes: Can any theme e.g. ‘Peak’ by Onioneye be customised to become a Woocommerce site.
I posted a ticket to the support but haven’t had a reply.

I have just joined Siteground and Word Press but are having difficulty understanding the latest computer speak. Like is Woocommerce a plug in/ software/? Can a shipping function be added to a themed website?

    • Hey Mark,

Yes you can still install the WooCommerce plugin. However “WooCommerce themes” are usually pre-styled to show a shop page, checkout page, account page, etc. It makes it easier to setup. I would also check out studiopress.com – their themes are a little more difficult to customize, but are more stable, faster, etc. Yes, shipping can be added. But definitely look at some WooCommerce themes – it will make your life easier.

  2. Hi Calvin! I am having the same problem. I paid for Siteground but now hanging as I do not find Wordpress easy to use though one of my web sites were created with Wordpress, but there is a lot of problem with it. I bought a new domain name and will try again. but I waste so much time learning and trying to understand what to do. I want a Web site that promotes my art, have e-commerce and able to show case my art in all it’s shapes and sizes! I want to be able to sell it as a ONE off as well as sell them as prints!
I would also like a members area!

  3. It seems like almost all wordpress sites for visual artists miss one vital factor–as visual artists, we use many many many different sizes and size ratios. It looks like only a couple of these recommended sites understand that! I get that a site looks better when you use a cookie cutter, but I find nothing more disturbing than having my art clipped and cropped (ala Instagram)! I painted the painting specifically for a certain size/ratio, sometimes vertical and sometimes horizontal and sometimes extremelly vertical and sometimes square. We need wordpress sites for visual artists that understand that and still can look good!

    • Can you use a portfolio plugin for that? I know many portfolio plugins adapt to the dimensions of your images – so there is no autocrop. Rarely do I find a WordPress theme that has a decent built-in portfolio so I usually rely on plugins.

  4. Hi, Dupuis. Sutdio Box is my all time favorite theme. It’s design, responsiveness, User friendly navigation, Super clear page make it awesome.
But I’m agreed with Dupuis because hosting service, site speed, right optimization are also big factor.

    • Hey Janet,

Love Studio Box! Definitely a rock solid theme for design, doesn’t have great reviews though.

Yes theme optimization is huge especially when, like me, your theme gets discontinued from ThemeForest and you have to switch themes/redesign your entire site just because your theme developer stops making updates and it poops out on you. That’s why I like Elegant Themes – they’ve been around forever.
